Over 3.1 million granted status under EU Settlement Scheme

Yesterday (16 April 2020) the Home Office announced that more than 3.14 million (3,147,000) applications under the EU Settlement Scheme have been concluded. Of these, 58 per cent have been granted settled status and 41 per cent have been pre-settled status.

Yesterday (16 April 2020) the Home Office announced that more than 3.14 million (3,147,000) applications under the EU Settlement Scheme have been concluded.  Of these, 58 per cent have been granted settled status and 41 per cent have been pre-settled status.

The official monthly statistics show there have been more than 3.4 million applications received up to 31 March 2020, with more than a year before the deadline of 30 June 2021 to apply. More than three million applications from England, more than 172,000 from Scotland, more than 56,000 from Wales and more than 57,000 from Northern Ireland were received.

The statistics released also show the number of applications refused, withdrawn or void, and invalid. There were 300 refusals in March, and 600 in total so far; a small proportion (0.02 per cent) of the more than 3.14 million applications concluded up to the end of March 2020.

Refusals are always a last resort and do not change that person’s existing rights under EU law. Home Office caseworkers will have often worked for months to try to get in touch with the applicant to help them provide the evidence required. For more information, please click here.

Update on EU Settlement Scheme during COVID-19 outbreak

As a result of COVID-19, some of the support services and application routes have temporarily changed in line with the latest Public Health England advice. However, individuals can continue to apply using any laptop or mobile device and they can still use the “EU Exit ID Document check app” to complete the identity stage of their application.

While applications continue to be processed, during this challenging time they will take longer than usual. A range of support continues to be available online, by email and telephone for those who have questions or need help applying.

The Settlement Resolution Centre will continue to respond to email enquiries and provide a call back function when required. However, it is following all the latest Public Health England advice to work from home where possible and will no longer be answering inbound telephone calls. We are keeping this situation under constant review and will endeavour to reinstate the telephone support service as soon as reasonably possible in line with public health guidance.

There are 57 voluntary and community sector organisations across the UK which can offer assistance online, over the telephone or by email to help more vulnerable or at-risk people to apply. Please check with the individual organisations for further details.

Additional support is available for those who do not have the appropriate access, skills or confidence to apply online through Assisted Digital, which offers assistance over the telephone.
